Inklessly

A self publishing platform which shares ad revenue with authors, specifically focusing on serially published works of fiction.

As a fiction writer myself, I am tired of writing for free and having the platforms I publish on rake in the majority of the revenue. With the exception of the top authors, no other author can make a living off their writing alone. They nearly always have to work another job.

Even in the platforms outside of webnovel like royalroad, only the top authors attract enough patrons to their patreon pages. Because fundamentally, while readers want to be able to support the authors whose work they read, they can't afford to subscribe to all of their patreons as that would be too expensive.

So the solution is Inklessly. You can help the authors you read get fairly compensated by just reading.

For now, authors can't control how many ads will be in their work, there will just be one after the chapter and up to 2 more depending on the length of the chapter, but in the future ad placement will be controlled by the authors. We won't be forcing them to only post on Inklessly.

A reflection on learning front-end web development:

In order to build Inklessly and propose the project to my start-up-a-thon team I had to consider many factors from how I would bring in users, build and foster a community on it and bring in authors. I also had to learn some front end development for responsive web apps built with react.

Being a non-technical founder of a tech company without any real computer science experience, I have a lot to learn.

The first thing I did was join the complete web development course on Udemy, which my uncle was able to give me access to.

Then I bought the react + firebase fullstack web application building and deployment course. Both of them proved extremely helpful in turning someone like me with nearly 0 coding experience to someone that could follow the conversations of all the developers on the team and help build out portions of the platform.

Inklessly is coming soon, perhaps as early as this March. Do sign up to be an author on the beta with the form below!
